New to swap. Please help me with hardware questions

Post by MaddyPaul »

Hi,
I am new to this forum and don't have any AI or faceswap software usage experience or knowledge. I am willing to buy a windows laptop with Nvidia graphics card support which is around $2500 USD. Below is the spec of CPU and GPU:

Intel® Core™ i9-14900HX (up to 5.8 GHz 36 MB L3 cache, 24 cores, 32 threads) + NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4070 Laptop GPU (8 GB)

Questions:

  1. On the installation page it says CUDA 3.5 or higher will support. But on the release page it is written CUDA 9+ is required. In the forum discussions I found members are using 10XX, 20XX, 30XX or 40XX which are most likely CUDA 8.X version supported. I am not sure if I am getting it correct but will this software work for me with 4070 GPU with CUDA 8.9?

  2. Is that good enough for face swap on images/videos.

  3. With this hardware config, how big model size can be? Just want to have some idea about how much PX it could be.

  4. While going through some steps and it says about "Tensorflow". What is the purpose of that and do I need that to run face swap on images/videos. If so, then V1 supports Tensorflow 1.15 which needs CUDA 10.0 probably will not work on the hardware i looking for.

  5. Also, will it work with external GPU(eGPU) through thunderbolt 4?

Probably I am already messed up with the questions and confusions in my mind :). Please guide me.

Yes

  1. Is that good enough for face swap on images/videos.

Yes, but it is better to use a desktop than a laptop for Machine Learning

Somewhere between 256px and 512px depending on model complexity

  1. While going through some steps and it says about "Tensorflow". What is the purpose of that and do I need that to run face swap on images/videos. If so, then V1 supports Tensorflow 1.15 which needs CUDA 10.0 probably will not work on the hardware i looking for.

Don't worry about any of this, the installer handles it all for you

  1. Also, will it work with external GPU(eGPU) through thunderbolt 4?

Not tested, but I see no reason why not

My word is final
